CityCenter, the Largest Private Development in U.S. History, Opens on Schedule

MGM’s massive 18 million SFG, $8.5 billion project opened as scheduled on December 16, 2009.

The project was developed by MGM Mirage and its joint venture partner, Dubai World, utilizing eight renowned architects including Foster and Partners, Gensler, Helmut Jahn, KPF Architects, Pelli Clarke Pelli, Rockwell Group, RV Architecture LLC, and Studio Daniel Libeskind. The 4,004 room Aria hotel-casino is the centerpiece of this project, soaring 60 stories above The Strip. The project also opened with the 1,543 guestroom Vdara condominium-hotel; the Mandarin Oriental, with 392 hotel guestrooms and 227 luxury condominium residences; and the 750,000 SF Crystals, which includes high-end retail space and restaurants. Veer towers, two standalone residential condominium towers with 670 units, will be completed in February. Amenities include 300,000 SF of convention and meeting space, a 1,824-seat Elvis themed theater, a spa and an on-site power plant.

IVI’s Project Management Oversight Division was retained on behalf of the construction lender as its consultant on the development of CityCenter, located between Bellagio and Monte Carlo on the Las Vegas Strip.

IVI provided project management oversight services consisting of construction cost control; reviewing contract drawings and specifications; and the reviewing of construction and building loan documents, schedules, permits, and approvals. During the construction, IVI provided payment requisition disbursement control services and ensured general compliance of construction with the project documents.
